Indian classical music is a genre of music which has two major traditions, Hindustani and Carnatic. The music of India includes multiple varieties of classical music, folk music, filmi, Indian rock and Indian pop. India's classical music tradition, including Hindustani music and Carnatic, has a history spanning millennia and developed over several areas. Music in India began as an integral part of socio-religious life.

Ustad Bismillah Khan, Pandit Ravi Shankar, AR Rahman, Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, R.D. Burman, M. S. Subbulakshmi, Zakir Hussain, Mohammad Rafi, Ilayaraja and goes on like this the list of Indian legends. We are truely blessed to have all these gems in our land. Its still flows..


A R Rahman

This kind hearted man is a living legend!

A. R. Rahman's works are noted for integrating Indian classical music with electronic music, world music and traditional orchestral arrangements. Among his awards are six National Film Awards, two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, fifteen Filmfare Awards and seventeen Filmfare Awards South. He has been awarded the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award, in 2010 by the Government of India.

Hariprasad Chaurasia

A renowned Indian flute player. He is an innovator and a traditionalist. He is as credited for his musicianship as for his technical ability on the native instruments. He has been honoured with several awards of which the most prominent ones are the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award of India, and the distinction of Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) of France. He also serves as the Artistic Director of the World Music Department at the Rotterdam Music Conservatory in the Netherlands.

Zakir Hussain

Zakir Hussain is an Indian tabla player in Hindustani classical music, musical producer, film actor and composer. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1988, and the Padma Bhushan in 2002, by the Government of India. He was also awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1990, given by the Sangeet Natak Academy, India's National Academy of Music, Dance & Drama. In 1999, he was awarded the United States National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship, the highest award given to traditional artists and musicians.
